What to do for Valentine’s Day/Family Day in Durham Region

Happy Valentine’s Day/Family Day Weekend!

If you’re looking for something romantic to do tonight, or something fun to do the rest of the weekend here’s a list of some fun options.

22 Church Steakhouse – Romantic steakhouse in Pickering Village. Check out their Valentine’s Day Menu!

Casa Verde – Italian restaurant in Pickering Village with a great wine list. Valentine’s Menu also available

Chatterpaul’s – One of Durham’s most popular restaurants. Chatterpaul’s also has a Whitbylicious menu for $35/person

Fazio’s Restaurant & Wine Experience – Lovely Italian restaurant in Oshawa with a wine cellar accommodating over 15,000 bottles!

Last minute gifts? No problem!

For Him: Alleyne’s Grooming for Gentlemen is relatively new in Ajax, but has become an excellent desination for men looking to pamper themselves a little. You can purchase a gift certificate for anything from a hot shave (very popular) to a massage to pedicure, even image consultations.

A good book can be a great gift as well – why not take a look through Chapter’s and find something on a subject he loves?

Most men also love chocolates. You can either buy pre-boxed or visit Laura Secord, Purdy’s or Godiva and make your own combination up. Really, who doesn’t love chocolate?

For Her: If you don’t want to go the chocolates and roses route (Which you can easily find at Laura Secord or Purdy’s!), then know that every girl loves to be pampered too. A massage or a pedicure is always a great gift. If you’re looking for a fabulous masseuse, look no further than Melissa Nunes at The Purple Monarch. For a mani-pedi, there are lots of options available, but here are just a few in Whitby, Ajax, Pickering and Oshawa.

Looking for some fun activities?

If you love skating, head down to Millenium Square in Frenchman’s Bay and check out the outdoor skating rink. Open from 9am to 9pm

Take your little one to a ceramics cafe! Check out Crock a Doodle out in Bowmanville, and they can make their own unique piece of art.

If you’re looking for something fun to do with the family, check out the ParentSource events page for lots of fun ideas!

And if there’s anything else you’re considering doing, first take a look at what’s open and what’s closed this Family Day in Durham Region.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Happening Tonight: City of Pickering Tree Lighting

Hello Everyone!

Tonight marks the City of Pickering’s annual Tree Lighting!

Happening tonight at City Hall (1 The Esplanade), head into city council chambers beginning at 6PM to stroll around the booths and be serenaded with the lovely music of the Pickering Community Concert Band (featuring yours truly!)

The indoor fun runs from 6-8 tonight, after which the tree lighting will commence outside, along with a beautiful fireworks display. This is always a great event with lots of traffic, and I hope to see some of you there!

Sidenote: If you are coming to City Hall, I also HIGHLY recommend you drive South on Liverpool to Ilona Park Crescent for some of the most AMAZING lighting displays you will ever see!

Our Second Flip – Before and After

Happy Friday Friends! I hope everyone had a lovely week and that you got enough of a warm weather fill throughout the week since it’s supposed to cool off for the weekend.

I thought I would do another post on our house flipping. The second house we did was a 4-bedroom two storey brick home in west Pickering (right on the Pickering/Scarborough border) that had been built in the early 1980s. The home hadn’t had a thing done to it since it was built, and offered a perfect opportunity for us. Right price, large lot, steps to the Rouge Provincial Park, and loads of potential.

Ajax/Pickering Restaurants: 22 Church Steakhouse

There are a ton of excellent local restaurants in Durham region, and this year I’ve kind of taken it on myself to give them a shot.

A few weeks ago my husband and I tried out 22 Church Street, a Steakhouse in Pickering Village in Ajax. Located just south of Kingston Road on Church, it’s easy to spot thanks to the old car outside. The building itself is a small 2-storey place. It may not be large, but it certainly was busy! The ambiance was great – cosy, friendy and very comfortable.

Both my husband and I ordered the New York Striploin, medium rare which came with mixed veggies and mashed potatoes. Both our meals were absolutely fantastic. At around $20 for a steak it certainly doesn’t break the bank but did provide a delicious meal. The wine list isn’t extensive but provides some great pairing options as well.

If you’re ever in Pickering Village I highly recommend checking this place out!
